Today is Memorial day. A day to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country and for those who came home but for one reason or another are no longer with us. For many of us vets, today is a very hard day. We honor those that we served with who are no longer with us.
Having served in both the Navy and the Army, I would like to first remember my brothers on eternal patrol. You don't know their names, but we remember the boats. USS Thresher, USS Scorpion, all the boats lost during WW2... Even those who were my adversaries have my respect and honor today. Kursk, Komsomolets... Too many to list.
Also today I honor the 8 brothers of the 724th En Bn that I have lost in the last 12 yrs since returning from Iraq. For some of you accident or illness visited you at home. For others the war never ended and your pains were too much to bear. I honor you most of all, and I look forward to seeing you again in the next life...
Sgt L. Johnson Sgt R. Adams Sgt K. Little Sgt Fankhauser SSg J. Kirkwood SFC Zuesdorf SFC R. Erickson Sgt J. Dake
You all were taken away from us way too soon but you will never be forgotten.

Played fine for me, however I'm at a loss for what would make that noise... Sounds like there's a marble rolling around in there. All the variator weights in place?

It's possible that it could be a fuel restriction, or at least fuel starvation of some kind. I figured out that yesterday when it did it, I was very low on fuel. Perhaps with not much left in the tank, the "fuel pressure" available in the gravity fed system wasn't enough to keep up with demand.
So I went ahead and reset the exhaust valve to .005, filled the tank and gave her a test run this evening. Not really a true test as I didn't have enough time to ride around long enough. But no issues and she seemed to actually pull a bit harder up hills. I gained 3MPH going up my test hill by my house!
So perhaps I had more than one issue going on...
I'll keep riding and let you all know if I can get it to recur, while keeping the valves set to .004 in .005 ex and making sure I have gas in the tank!!!

Yeah, I know, but it would surprise me if the brake master cylinder would be different... I'd give Jim at Rapid Repair a quick call and ask if they are the same. He sells/services most of these scoots...

Bob, Isn't all you need is the master cylinder? Scrappy has one with the lever for $25. Go to this page and scroll almost to the bottom Gy6 right master cylinder with lever

Yeah Trash, I guess that's what I'm leaning towards now. Maybe I'll start by moving the exhaust out a thousandth and try to make it happen again. I'll try that tonight.
Crwford, I've looked the brakes over front and rear and they are working properly.

Here's a good one for ya. My scoot is an Icebear PMZ150-3C scooter (2 wheel) with the standard 150 GY6 clone engine.
Here's what happens. Sometimes, once it is fully warmed up, I'll be traveling at high speed (40-45 or higher) and it feels like an invisible hand starts applying the brakes, enough to slow me down 5-10 mph pretty quickly. If I slow down, it will return to normal running, but once it starts happening, any time I speed back up it'll do it again. The motor doesn't drop out, but the RPMs do decrease as I'm slowed. There is also no sound associated with this happening, no scraping, squealing, no change in the engine note.
The scoot runs great, pulls hard to 50~55, top speed about 60 on the flat @7500 RPM when this is not happening.
Things I've done to the scoot since it started happening, both to try to fix it and general upgrades:
Emissions delete Hoca variator and 10G sliders Gates belt Yellow contra spring Inspected clutch 58.5 BBK including new head and cam New carb and intake/air filter with 38 pilot and 120 main Manual petcock and larger fuel filter Replaced all fuel and vac lines Performance exhaust Set, checked and rechecked valve gap .004 both New tires Inspected brakes front and rear Several different CDIs I'm now running the Casoli from tvnacman (Thanks John!) New coil and plug wire NGK Iridium plug New tires Engine oil and gear lube checked and changed as needed
I thought I had it fixed this spring with the carb and BBK/head/cam install but it happened again last night after a long ride, as I was on a 45 mph road nearing home.
Could this be valve float? Hard to believe that problem would follow even after changing the head and cam.
I'm at my wits end here...
Jim

Don't have any experience with the new lithiums, but Cyborg is right, the standard lead-acid batteries are cheap and work well, as long as you keep up the maintenance (add water when needed, charge at the proper rate when needed, and for gods sake if you store it over winter, disconnect it and charge it before you store it)
I prefer AGM as I'm tired of messing with electrolyte levels...

What does it sound like? Are the RPMs coming up the same way they did earlier or is the motor staying slow and slowly increasing in speed? When a motor "bogs" it has a distinctive "bogging" sound.
Could be a stuck weight in your variator if the RPMs do not rise quickly when you twist the throttle...

Yes, it could make a huge difference, if it's not allowing the engine to get into the RPM power band... If you need an impact, this one from Harbor Freight is what I and a lot of the folks here have. Even comes with a socket that fits! Don't forget to go to HF's Home Page and print out the 20% off coupon!

Have you checked the valves yet? Have you taken the variator off to make sure all the rollers are in place?

Was a beautiful day for riding around here as well! Even got some two-up riding in with my fiancee on the back. Lovely...
Until.
Rode solo to pick up some fast food dinner for myself. Cager decided he needed to stop suddenly in front of me. ( I know, my fault for following too close ) Locked up the rear and I think the front as well, because the scoot got squirrelly just before I came to a stop and I couldn't keep it upright. Scoot wound up on her left side with a bit of road rash, although I was almost stopped before she went down and she probably only slid a foot or two on the concrete. I wound up on my back in front of the scoot. Luckily I know how to take a fall as there's not a scratch on me and my helmet never touched the ground.
Shook my fist at the cager as he drove away, dusted myself off, picked up the scoot, fired her up and proceeded on my merry way.
Ah well, the joys of riding in the city...
Scoot safely my friends!!!
Jim
