Filter looks clean on the inside and dirty on the outside so yes, I would replace it as it is reaching the point where airflow is starting to be restricted a bit.

Also, the scooter smokes a lot with black stinky smoke. What can cause that and how to fix it? ( I recently had engine and gear oils changed) If it is stinky like gas it might be running too rich. A new filter might help and/or adjust the mixture screw on the carb. Otherwise it could be that oil is getting past the piston rings. Or maybe there's too much oil in the crankcase and it is getting forced past the rings. Did it smoke like that before the oil change?

If the smoke is coming from oil being burned it is getting into the combustion chamber either through the piston rings or leaking down through the valve guides. If either is the case a top end rebuild is in order. If it is oil causing the smoke that is usually indicated by a lighter colored smoke with an oily smell.
If the smoke is caused by running really rich, the smoke is usually darker in color and you can really smell the unburned fuel. Once you get the airbox situation fixed you can dial in your air/fuel mixture screw and see if that helps.
Out of curiosity, how does your spark plug look? If it's a fuel issue causing the smoke, sometimes the heat range of the plug can make a difference.

Hi, everyone. I have received the airbox and the hose/connection #4 is absent. What is the purpose of it and is it a big deal if it is not utilized?

I believe I purchased the YY250T-2 scooter according to the reciept the gas tank is in front of the motor with the radiator resevoir. I drove it for the second time yesterday and my battery died to zero. I immediatly purchased a new one and charged it and put it in and the alternator is not putting out enough charge to recoop the battery after running. Where can I purchase a new alternator and where would the alternator be located on the unit. Can someone please help

The temperature sender on my 2011 Johway YY250T has gone bad and they sent me a new one. Where should I start looking for its location?

I wanted to post and thank many of you for some of the advice you post here. I'm an experienced mechanic in various forms but not much on bikes. Your advice (especially about tune-ups) has helped me a lot!

I too have a 2008 Jonway YY250T. It's ran like a champ for 3000+ miles and has suddenly lost power. I suspect a vacuum line has come lose or burned through. I am having an issue with vacuum lines and EGR lines melting. Will the Honda Reflex manual have a diagram of those lines?

If you do some reading in our library near the bottom of the home page you can find out all about your scooter. There are generic manuals. You scooter came with 2 completely different engines. A Yamaha clone and a honda. Best to start your own thread than to add on to a 5 year old thread. Mention which engine you have when starting your thread too. Which oil will get you a million different answers. I prefer 15w40 rotella.
