Nice score,,, unless that " old shotgun" was an Ithaca double side by side or over and under,,, in that case you may have been broomed nope, it was a savage arms hardware store special probably from the 50's. cost around 25 dollars back then is only worth around 50 now. The banjo however is more valuable than it was when I got it off ebay. a few years ago Kay and Harmony string instruments weren't worth diddly, now they fetch a hefty price for what they were meant to be (student instruments) and that Chicago factory cranked out a ton of them, then started importing just as many. The banjo is certainly not a Vega or a Gibson, but sometimes you don't want that. Woah...I just realized Chinese scooters are the Harmony of scooters, they are looked down upon and they are everywhere MIND EXPANDED!

After almost exactly a year after bringing home my first scooter, I decided to bring home another non working machine. This time it's a onefiddy. I traded a banjo I never played and an old shotgun that was my fathers. Im not a gun guy and neither was he. I bet it hadn't been fired in 50 years. Not a bad trade. It only needs a head and some plastics (and likely a billion other things, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.) Anyone familiar with this style. The engine is just a plain old gy6 that I can see, though I think it's water cooled.

i got a new head the other day. I installed it today and the scooter does not run. It's a 47mm head. it was the only one the guy had at the scooter shop. I have a 47mm kit on my scoot so I thought it would be fine. I needed a new head due to a stripped stud hole
at first it wouldn't start, then it started but it would not idle, then i got it to idle but i had no power. I was going maybe 3 mph. then I adjusted the valves again. I found the bolt on the exhaust rocker came off. I guess I didn't tighten it enough. after that it ran ok up and down the alley. When I tried to start it again, it would not start. checked my valves again, they were around .004, where they should be, right? I have spark because I was able to start it here and there. do you think I am not getting fuel? I have noticed that spacer thing on my intake was not lined up with the hole on my new head, could that an issue? I don't have a compression tester at the moment. Would a bigger head raise or lower compression and how is it resolved? Thanks

Yeah. It was the valves. The exhaust valve wasn't bolted down well and it came off.
Admin: delete this thread since it was stupid on my part and the answer was obvious

Im sure the answer is "adjust the valves" but I want to ask a few things first. I installed a new head because my old one had a stripped stud hole. It's a head for a 47mm kit which is fine because that's what I have on my scoot. I replaced my gaskets because my scooter leaked a lot so I had the cylinder off of it too. I got everything back together and now it had trouble starting. When it does start it's really slow. I adjusted my valves to .004. Is that correct? It's gotta be the valves, right? It's always the valves.
I've had the bbk in for a while and besides an oil leak it's always performed wonderfully

I am replacing my pod filter with a stock airbox and for the life of me I can temember how it attaches. I see some holes but they don't match up. Was there a bracket I'm forgetting or do I not have it lined up right.

I got a new head to replace my current one with the stripped exhaust stud hole. I'm wondering if I need to clean up the intake and exhaust ports. They look a little rough Or will they be ok as is. What's the safest way to clean these up? I'm afraid I'd loose control of my Dremel and screw something up. Can this be done with some sandpaper?

Update: now it's even worse. I thought it was from the valve cover but now I don't think so. I need a new head anyway. So I think I'll replace the gaskets while I'm there. Maybe that's it.

my 1p39qmb is still leaking. no surprise, but what I find unusual is the pattern of the leak. behold: 2 lines of drips, parallel to each other. another thing I noticed, it looks like the PAIR hoses are sweating oil. it's weird.

it was the valve cover gasket. I tore into it recently and fixed a few odds and ends. I replaced the pod filter with the original. rejetted the carb, fixed the turn signal. I need a new head but I am not putting anymore money in this hunk of Chinese garbage. I'm looking for someone with a spare head they can sell me cheap. I'd like to save up for a Taiwanese scoot. it seems like around here they go for $1200 used. so looking at my bank account, I will get one when I retire in 2035

Regarding the valve cover gasket. Do I have to get a scooter specific one or can any large o ring work?
Just wondering

I think this will work. Got it for under 3 bucks at o'Riley auto parts. I'll report back and let everyone know if it works or not.
