My headlight actually provides a ton of light in my opinion. Road dust WAS my problem in this scenario. As I told my brother, I'll be damned if I ever stop riding my scooter. As long as that engine is still running and I'm alive, I'll be riding!

My brothers 2008 VIP does this and to be perfectly honest we still haven't figured out why. In fact, the bike will start and kick over without the keys in the ignition (theft hazard, anyone?). Sometimes it stops doing it and the ignition and kill switch work fine, though. So maybe it's a loose ground? I'm thinking it's a possibility, although I've checked all the grounds that I know of. Check your grounds and see if your grounds are loose (my dashboard lights flickered when I had a loose engine ground). I'm thinking that maybe the engine itself is not grounded properly to the frame, and that's why the kill switch and ignition will fail to work sometimes. Maybe somebody who knows more about motor mounting can pop in and tell us how to check the motor mount for proper grounding to the frame?
Edit: Wait, the spark plug can't fire if it's not grounded, right? So that can't be it..somewhere the CDI is not being grounded. Maybe it's a broken wire, then...Maybe you could trace back from the CDI to try to find the correct ground and make sure it's tight!

You ride a Chinese scooter in MI...they are gonna look at you funny anyway It's becoming quite popular, actually. I saw at least three scooters in a two mile radius yesterday. I even pulled over to ask one of the other riders how many cc's she was running (bad move)...she was smoking, and obviously stoned. I MEAN SHE WAS WRECKED. it was a 50cc, but my 50 smoked hers..then again, I'm glad she wasn't going very fast, because I wanted to get away from her as fast as humanly possible! Stranger danger, kids. On topic though: I'm not sure there is a standard really. Personally I wonder what I'm running. I've had a cheap Chinese belt on for well over 2500 miles now and it still works. Never replaced it. As for my weights and variator, I don't think I need to replace them. Is there some rule of thumb as to when you have to replace them?

I'm feeling much better today guys. Just a bit sore is all. Most injuries seem a lot worse than they are at first, I guess. The good news is that I'm feeling better, and that I got back on and rode today, but not before tearing my bike down completely, tricking out my dashboard with some LED's that John sent me, removing the giant metal rattling reflector from my headlight housing, losing one screw in my scooters plastics, and of course getting a rare earth magnet stuck somewhere on my steering stem (still haven't found it, probably never will). Thanks John! Also, I'm starting to wonder if my bike has had "Terminator" on the front of it to show that it WILL kill you (maybe that's why the previous owner sold it for $200?).

I'll take a photo later and post it here. It's the PAIR system, I know that for a fact. There IS a spot for it, and it looked uncovered. so I'll post the photo later to show everybody.

Ya know, not everyone is cut out to ride around on two wheels. It's beginning to sound like you may fall into that group. If you don't figure out what you're doing wrong, and pretty darn soon...I don't think you are long for this world.....Sorry if this offends you....just calling it as I see it...Bob I personally feel as though I'm a very good rider in all the essential aspects, but when it comes to potholes, they've got me! Keep in mind that both times this has happened to me was on an unregulated dirt road with tons of dust being kicked up by the bike/bikes in front of me, so I guess that could explain the visibility. I have absolutely zero plans on giving up riding on two wheels, it's just too much of a joy. I think I'm just going to stay away from dirt roads from now on, is all. Gotta get up and keep on kickin' (err...rolling)!

So when I was adjusting my valves the other day, I noticed something that I had never noticed before on my engine..an EGR port! Does every scooter have an EGR port but just doesn't use it, or should I find a way to block off the EGR port? Nothing is connected to it at this time.

I haven't taken any formal education, no. But I am always as cautious as I can be, just not cautious enough when you hit a pothole so deep that you can't do anything but fall. Seriously, this pothole was so large there is nobody that COULDNT have went down had they hit it (like I did). Both times this has happened it has been night time and on unfamiliar roads. I feel like I shouldn't be riding on unfamiliar roads at night!!! best go to the doctors tomorrow though. Hopefully you're right and these spills are just really bad coincidences and not some string of bad luck!!
As for the scooter...those things are a lot stronger than people give them credit for. It fell on the same side as it did last time (except this time I ended up to the right of the scooter, not under it), so you can't really scratch what paint was already scratched off. No visible damage but I haven't really looked.

Okay, well there's the second fall off my scooter within two months. Those pesky potholes....except this time it feels like i put something out in my back, my neck is on fire, and my knee feels like it's a bunch of tiny shards. Hopefully the pain subsides...

I just adjusted my valves to .003 on my 50cc, at least, I think I did. I'm not exactly acquainted with how much pressure there should be on the feeler gauge, but now I have valve noise. They're louder than the engine now! Is this bad for it, and should I go back and adjust them again or should I just wait for them to quiet down? And if the valves are open too far, will there be a top end/low end torque reduction (maybe I'm imagining it..)?

.005"? I'm pretty sure that's a medical condition. Side effects include NO SELF ESTEEM
