Warranty? Whats that? I don't think they have those in china.. Food for thought, the Genuine Stella is made by LML in India, and is known in the rest of the world as the Star. Matt

Tires

I'm running 3.50-10 on my 50cc scooter instead of the 3.00-10 that came on it. Have 4000 miles/kilometers (i don't know what the odomater reads in) on it now with no problems. My scooter is similar to the TaoTao and some of them come with the 3.50 tire. As long as it has clearance i don't see a problem. This is pretty spot on. Some bikes have the clearance for a little extra rubber, but some bikes like the Honda Elite SR 50's don't and they have to run the skinny 3.00's. Matt

Hey Matt,,thanks again for the headsup on the tubeless wheel arrangement,,,,thats the ticket baby!!!!!,,,it says for track use only but meet european roadworthiness certifications,,,no dot certs,,but i'll run them,,,,ordered them should have them in a week or two,,,,now all i need to do is get the bike to put them on,,,, Wait till you get them, they are awesome! Make sure you have a good shop mount them though, you want one with a machine that can do 10" rims, spoons are not so good for these bad boys... Don't ask me how I know. These are the tires that I run: www.partsforscooters.com/154-84_Kenda_TireFor the dollar these are some of the best feeling and wonderfully sticky scooter tires I've ever found. They are Kenda's newest sport compound and are quickly becoming one of our best sellers. Matt

Rich, We had a blast! On the way down we were only passed by one sportbike and it took him a couple of miles to really put some distance on us. My Vespa was pretty fast in those tight curves, and unfortunately you can't get much of a feel for how much lean we had in some of those corners because the camera is helmet mounted, but I did "leave some metal on the mountain". My purchasing manager Tom was on his built up 103cc Minarelli, and I think I was holding him up a little bit.
We try to visit Deal's Gap at least once a year, and everyone there is always very, very cool. It truly is someplace where we are all there for the same thing so it doesn't matter what you ride, so long as you are riding. You do have to be careful there, and I don't recommend it to anyone who isn't a strong rider... It's a whole lot of corners each way, but it is easily one of my favorite places.

Oh man, you are right... I keep on forgetting that the Stella is now a 4t. I haven't ridden a Stella 4t yet, but I bet that engine gets the job done and you are probably right that it might need just a bit of a boost. LML does a pretty good job with that bike.
Bitubo is a whole lot of money for the suspension on that bike though, unless you are going to be riding the bike really really hard, you can get away for less. I have a set of the Prima shocks on mine, and they actually work great and for a fraction of the cost. I know SIP has a set for that bike that costs quite a bit less than the Bitubo setup that also works really well.
I hear you, having a 4 speed bike is just great. I'll be honest though, I like my auto too. I guess they both have their place. I'm sure you probably won't have much problem selling the ET.
A word of caution though... I'm sure you can get the engine to hold 60mph no problem with a few mods, but on those bikes, there is no such thing as "comfortable at 60". The small wheels coupled with the bike's old geometry and very short wheelbase makes for a very nervous (darty and unstable) ride north of 50mph. It's just they way they are, crazy fun but something to consider nonetheless. I did find that the SIP tubeless aluminum rims made a substantial difference in ride quality over the split rims, although that could also be attributed to the quality rubber I have installed now as well. I'm not a big fan of tubes (for safety reasons) so that was my first upgrade.

Well maybe someday if they move it to someplace that's not half way across the country. For now I'll just go to bike nights where everyone is accepted by everyone. Even the Stella rider was interested in my scooter. It does move around each year, so that could happen. Matt

All I can say is my stock piped PX is plenty fast on those 10" wheels with its ancient geometry. I can't say I'd want to get much more out of it, although that may have more to do with the fact that I can easily out ride my brakes on that bike.
Faster than 50mph and I can honestly say that 12" and up wheels and 4t are the way to go just for the sake of stability and longevity. Well in my opinion anyway.
Now I don't want to sound like I'm coming down on the shifty bike, because I love my 4 speed PX. It's such a cool bike, and a wonderfully raw scootering experience. It is the bike that I recently took to Deal's Gap, and had a blast on it.

KZ, y'know, it isn't just for Vespas, all scoots welcome. Just sayin'... Yeah, right. You know how at HOG Rallies they have a separate lot for "Real" Harleys and another one for imitations like Sportsters, V-Rods, Sprints and now the Street models? I would probably have to park in Baton Rouge with my Fashion. A Chinese copy of a Honda?? "Oh yes, we have a lot for you down the street." No way man, I'm serious. The event is really open to scooters, and more importantly scooter riders. The one that we went to a couple of years ago had a strong representation of scooters that are not of the "Iconic Nameplate". (Granted, there are more Vespas there than anything else, true.) A HOG rally this is not. Besides, we'll be there, and how much of the Vespa Market do we really support? Not that much, but they love having us there anyway, and they know I'm trying to round up the whole scooter market, not just Vespas and Lammys. I'm not a fan of the separation at all. Matt

On a standard motorcycle or scooter rim, the last number in the tire is your rim diameter, in this case 10, or 10 inches. Many rims don't have a size actually printed on the rim, although yours does so it tells you that the rim is a 2.50-10. The proper size tire for a 2.5-10 rim is 3.50-10, which I see is currently mounted on your rim. Lucky for you 3.50-10 is the most popular size in scooter tires and there are many options available.

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong (but I don't think I am here), while it is generally agreed that the GY6 is derivative of Honda engine architecture, there never was a direct cross from GY6 to any particular Honda scooter model, particularly when speaking about the US scooter market.
KYMCO/SYM/PGO are in essence the remains (yes, oversimplified) of Honda Taiwan, and many now believe that the GY6 is actually a branch of the Honda engine tree that started off as particular to that market. It was then contracted/copied by the Chinese and eventually became the ubiquitous engine that we all know and love today.
Long story short, it's probably going to be a whole lot easier if you source some high quality Taiwanese made shoes for your scooter.
Matt
P.S. Feel free to correct any of this, I'm as curious about it as anyone. This is just what I've learned over the last few years.

A good rule of thumb is that if you are looking for a performance part for a Chinese built scooter, look for something made in Taiwan as opposed to Made in China. It'll cost a bit more, but Taiwanese manufacturing standards are heavily influenced by Japan, and it really shows, particularly in scooters.

I need to replace the front tire on my magnum, it takes the same size 130/60-13. It is a Kenda K761 series. I purchased one from Parts For Scooters,(they have one of the scrolling panels at top of page) along with a valve stem. The tire was $63.99 Roy K761's are great tires. That aggressive on/off tread really works well, particularly in the rain, good choice! This isn't a tire that you'll find at someplace like the 'Superstore, thank you for the business. Matt

Thanks, I pretty much stole this one too. I'm just getting it up to snuff today for a weekend shakedown. I hope I don't have all of the issues that Cy has with his, but I guess we'll see. Matt
