I'm getting worried now. Recall my post "Coming to the US". Well its finally about to happen as i fly out this Sunday evening 11 am your time 6pm here. Going to Arlington VA and have been warned to experience cold like i have never experienced before. But even the weather here in Johannesburg South Africa where its supposed to be summer, is slightly abnormal with coolish mornings and unseasonal winds. Perhaps All Gore was right, remember global warming means warmer some places but colder at others.

Hey Scootaway, Just watched the noon news where there was an unofficial report of 60" of this white hell in a place call "Little America". It's located in upper New York state and this is only what fallen with the current storm. That's a pretty good start for this early in the snow season. Where your headed, they don't get anything near this amount even for the entire winter. Enjoy your trip and be safe. M/C

Don't scare the man Luke. Scootaway - we'll turn the heaters on for you. From the looks of the radar map, this junk we're getting isn't making it to DC.
Wolfie - I hope your wife is in PA east of the mountains. I had 14" on my deck yesterday and didn't shovel. Today it was 18" when I did. The stuff is coming down off Lake Erie, hitting the western edge of the mountains and dumping on us. Local kids have had school canceled yesterday and today. I had 4 students out of 30 show up for class yesterday. But I had emailed them and said I wasn't taking attendance. I ended up canceling class.

Sorry about your weather MC & CC. We ended up with only 5-6 inches of the white stuff but that's too much. I see that you guys are getting the lake effects, that must be a bummer. One thing though, It's not ice !!! And what did the persimmon seeds say?

Yeah but 52 in Florida is pretty cold too most people. You got to remember Florida's only about 150 to 200 miles wide, so no matter where you are you have a sea breeze. I've had friends from up north who used to tell me that is was colder here at 48-50 than is was at 40-45 back where they were from. I only ever experience 16 once when in 1977 I was a kid and we had a major cold snap. I don't ever want to experience that again. I guess that's why I'm a Florida native and have never even seen snow (nor do I ever want too) unless it's just a sprinkling like we got last year.

In a year or so, I'm going to look for a place in the south so I can enjoy the winters for 6 months. I have a cousin in Phoenix, and I'm going to check it out. Then, I'm going to check out a place in the north for the summer. Minnesota, or U.P. Michigan.

Oh thats right Luke I forgot you were from Arizona. So yeah I guess Florida would seem really humid too you, being your used to that dry climate. You must have been in Orlando at the right time of the year, because it's way more humid inland than near the ocean. Try hitting Orlando in late July or August when it's 98 with 75% humidity. Man if it rains early in the afternoon and the sun comes back out THEN the humidity really starts!!

When I was in college over on the coast, it would get hot, but you didn't get the humidity. It was a big changed when I moved to the middle of the state. Most of the time I'll complain about living in Florida, but this is the time of the year that tricks me into staying! I'm a Michigan native, so this feels like paradise right now!

I'll bet, no matter how bad it gets here it will never be anything like Michigan. Especially if your from the upper peninsula.

We'll have over 40" from this storm by tonight. Oh well, it's only the beginning. I hope the supply of barley soup holds out. M/C

Damn I don't how you guys do it. I would be holed up inside until spring like a bear hibernating through the winter.

M/C My late Mother in Law lived in the lake effect pattern (from Lake Ontario). One day somebody told her not to let the snow bother her. "Afterall everybody knows lake effect snow isn't real". She laughed about that for a good long time.
