Has anyone increased the wattage of their headlight bulb? Mine got wet yesterday and blew. It was a 35/35 watt. I have a 45/45 bulb, but do not want to melt anything.

I went from (2) 18W/18 up to 25W/25 or 35W/35, cant remember which atm, with no ill effects. I have a post somewhere with a link to the bulbs. Looking into some 35W/35 PIAA bulbs if the scootercycle doesn't get totaled...

I want to upgrade the pitiful headlight on my E-Ton R4 but unfortunately it uses the cursed, plastic socket BA20D type! Over at the 'Dawg Pound' this is one guy's results upgrading one of those: scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=31985&page=1So I'm forced to figure a custom conversion to H4 type which I've yet to actually get to... still trying to finish reassembling the frame-up resto/restyle/upgrade job on the almost new (390 mi.) '07 Beamer. I asked my brother to remind me not to look at bikes that come from beach communities ever again!

I upgraded my 35w incandescent to 45w. No heat/melting problems, but they both blew out in a month or so. i put my 35w back in and they continue to burn strongly.

Speaking Of lights I ran into a problem last year when i had a trunk put on my 150 scooter it tuns out it blocks the tail lights What i did was to get 24 of the brightest lignts i could find i set up 3 colums of 4 on each side of the trunk lid i used the center 4 for turn signal the out side for the brake and running lights i used a pc monter exct cable so i disconect them when i remove the trunk no other relays etc.. i will try to get photos at a later date. I ded this bewcause i almout got hit by a truck. my best advice is to check you lighs after you mount anything over the rear tail lights.

Actualy I posted the wrong ad from ebay. The bulbs I ordered and installed were 60w/50w Halogen bulbs.

Since the factory service manual for my E-Ton R4 lists max headlight draw as 50W I'm planning on trying this one: www.bulbs.com/eSpec.aspx?ID=10646&Ref=10V+-+19V&RefId=328That is after I fab-up an H4 socket/retainer... the experience I cited in my 1st post convinced me that the high watt BA20D's I bought are definitely not the way to go!

i was thinking of going to a junkyard and obtaining a couple of those running lights from a newer car and cutting the old assemblies up and plastic welding the new reflector assembly onto the current lens, has anyone tried this radical mod? was definitely going to put a couple vent holes in too in case of heat build up.

Do you mean to replace your stock headlight, assembly and all? There's a guy out there in cyberspace (not on this forum) who has a Kymco Agility onto which he vaccuformed an automobile projector beam light. It was very professional work, but prolly cost way too much.

That 45/45 bulb is exactly what I am using now. So far so good! Nothing melting yet.

Curious to why it says "for off road use only". Any one know why?

because companies must cover themselves against lawsuits for selling things that are illegal on the street in some states. therefore almost everything aftermarket is labeled "for off road use only" like exhausts, aux lighting, turbos, NOS, and lots lots more. even some stainless steel braided brake lines are not DOT approved and therefore are illegal to run in a street vehicle.
basically, everything is street legal till you get caught. unless you are in cali in which everything is NOT street legal until you prove its got a CARB sticker (cali air resource board)
