HI, I have a few questions ? Has anyone seen these crank cases sides for sale before ? I am going to build a bigger gy6 engine this winter and trying to learn as much as I can before I do. I take it this is for adding an oil cooler to the 150cc engine using oil lines in the two holes shown. Do you think this piece is just drilled and tapped for oil lines or is it from another type engine like a gy6b ? Can a stock gy6 150cc engine be drilled and tapped to add an oil cooler like this one shown ? I saw this on ebay item number 180698888491 .. thanks.. marCus Attachments:

Well, that's a new one on me. Here's a picture link to EBAY where the item is located:Cickable Image Any of you guys know where this goes and how it works? I will say that the GY6 engine oil pump is so weak it usually is ineffectual for cooler add ons. It simply does not develop enough pressure to handle the additional requirements. However, this may be a different animal. Let's get some other input. Guys? Rich

I would disregard the fact it supposedly pumps from the oil pump channel. This allows for a cleaner(imo) way to run a remote cooler with an electric pump. I may have to snag one of these!

It doesn't fit on the engine, it is the engine (rightside crankcase).

I have more photo's that I got from the seller. I'll get them posted asap. It's the right side casing off a gy6 .
will.

Wow...Now I am learning a little bit more. When you say the oil pump is weak. How much pressure does it make in the engine or do you know ? I am just curious is all. Is there anywhere to get some specs on the gy6 150 engine anywhere on the web and do they make a better oil pump than the stock one ? Thanks, MarCus

I agree with Rich in that if you want to run a oil cooler you need an additional pump. Check out his latest mods in the Customs section. The title of your post did give me an ida though. What do you think about adding 2" finns to the bottom of the crank case with JB weld like rich did on his cylinder. This would in theory turn the sump into a heat sink.

extra weld may hold more heat but it sounds good

Ah, now I see, brain fart resolved, thanks guys. I don't think anyone has ever got a measurement on the oil pressure that a GY6 develops. Sprocket would probably know where you could put a tap with a pressure gauge so you could monitor it. However, we don't have any values to compare it to even if we did. We'd get X amount of pressure at Y RPM and then what? There's nothing to judge those values against. We are just going on the conventional wisdom that the GY6 pump is barely adequate for keeping up with the demands of the engine. I have searched all over the web for a more efficient oil pump that you could simply drop in to replace the stock one and I've found nothing. Maybe somebody else has had some luck in this regard. It seems to me there could be a more aggressive gear design but possibly the space limitations dictate the limitations. In regards to the JB Weld, I did reasearch it extensively and it has excellant heat transfer properties. If I was handy with a welder I probably would have welded the cooling fins in, but there's something to be said for being able to work it between the fins like you want it. In regards to a more efficient pump, the bikes like the Matrix come set up with oil cooler connections on the engine. Maybe this type of bike has a different pump but noone seems to know for sure. I'm going to have to go with the external electric pump and not take any chances. Rich

what type external pump would you use rich ? maybe kind of like a scavenge pump maybe ? i thought about putting in two lines into the sump and adding a cooler without disrupting the oil flow in the case from the main pump in case the electric pump quit working. i think it would get the same effect and if the pump failed then it would still have oil flow as long as the cooler could be mounted below the sump and not up high .. maybe tig weld in two 1/4" ferrules somewhere in the sump area to connect lines to? anyone else wanna comment on this or have any other ideas...

You need to buy a case that is already tapped for the oil cooler... Look at the picture carefully and you will see there is a difference in how the castings are done by were the oil pump is...compare it to the other pictures in this thread...the restriction is important!!! Most ATV type GY6 engines have these tapped in...and most 2010++ have them now in the 150cc scooters... Attachments:

Does the casting have a hole restriction coming out of the pump or have they cast in extra metal in that area to allow for the fitting ? Thanks. MarCus
