Sometimes it's not just the sloppy fit... the Chinese have a tendency to over-crimp their connectors and actually cut through the wire causing a bad/intermittent connection. The best example is the horn connectors. Probably because they are the least important, they tend to be crimped through a lot and the horn sounds like a sick duck.
For an extra $10 and 20 minutes on the PDI, it's always worth it to replace all of the crimp and gang connectors.

I remember the May-Sept season very well! Our decision to move down here was solidified one day 26 years ago when my wife and I came out of the house to go to work one morning and our cars were gone! Well not really... we were able to find them by the small antennas poking out of the SNOW! This patio cover is going to be used well, that's for sure! We'll get use of it 12 months of the year and it's main function is to block the sun and the rain - it's doing both really well right now! We moved the gym out from the house to the patio now and it was a really good idea! I find myself working out every night now because I can go from the workout straight to the pool. And Lord knows I need those workouts! I'll post a final picture once we get it all cleaned up... -Rich

Okay, so nearing the end now and the gutter man came today as well as the carpenters... gutters are up and so is the wall on the shed! The masons should be back tomorrow and put the sand in the cracks of the pavers and the job will be done! I'll finally be able to move all my junk back into the shed and clean up the yard! That's a rap! (at least for now! Next comes the flower beds! )-Rich

Well things didn't go as planned... the weather didn't want to cooperate and work slowed down, but it's almost there! All the vinyl is finally done! I had a chance to finish the electrical, trim out the lights and install the ceiling fans. All that's left now is the shed! Whoopee! They're supposed to come back in the morning and do the sand for the pavers, install the shutter wall on the shed, paint and collect the final check! I hope the weather cooperates! Oh yeah, one MAJOR glitch! The engineer apparently added 8" to the width of the cover, so now it is equal with the edge of the shallow end of the pool. So when it rains, as it's been doing a lot lately, the water pours off the roof right into the pool! Carrying with it all those little granules from the shingles which apparently have some sort of metal or iron in them! I have to find a gutter man ASAP! These little buggers are making rust stains on the bottom of the pool and my wife is having a fit! We just spent $4K resurfacing the pool last month and she's about to kill the poor job foreman! It's always something! -Rich

Thanks for all the comments! OH! I nearly forgot! Yesterday was planned to cover the ceiling with vinyl, so night before last, I had a friend and electrician who was supposed to come and wire it up. Well you know how every project has its glitches? This one did as well... my electrician did a no-show on me! I had him scheduled for Thursday night, so on Wednesday, I went ahead and put the sub-panel on the house and ran the wire through the pipe I had installed under the patio. I also went ahead and wired up the ceiling fans, leaving the lighting for him. Well Thurs night comes and I get home at 5:30 as planned to meet him - no show. So I finally call him around 6:30 and he says he's stuck on a job for at least 3 more hours! Now I have to run out to Home Depot and start looking for all the supplies - just the recessed lighting. Long story short, I was out there until after midnight installing the fixtures and running the wiring. Not a big deal for most guys, but I have a torn rotator cuff on my left shoulder from an accident last year and tennis elbow in my right arm, so pain was the word of the day! Fri morning, I couldn't even move the fingers in my right arm it hurt so bad! Fortunately I don't have to type since I have Dragon Naturally speaking on my computer... Fri morning, the code inspector showed up and the only problem he had was I didn't staple the wiring to the wall near the light switches and wall outlet. I told him the story about the electrician and he was sympathetic. He gave me both the electrical and occupancy permits! So it's ready to be sealed up. Yesterday, they got most of the ceiling covered up and about 90% of the soffet plus the 2 columns. I am looking forward to today! They just got here about an hour ago and have finished the ceiling and are going to be completing the job! The paver crew is supposed to be back around 6pm to apply the sand and tamp it all in. Alley, the party is on the 31st! We have family coming in from overseas and Canada, and you're welcome to come! Rich, NASA was almost necessary! You know we have a problem with hurricanes and code here is now 110mph. It seems everything I plan personally always has something unusual about it, and the 28' span was the killer here. Accolades to the engineer though, because I really didn't want that center support there! His plans had some framing improvements as well, and with the big span, code enforcement wanted a 120mph rating - this came in at 135. Luke, if you're doing yours in the fall, plan on 25% more $$ than you think! I went way over budget on this making changes as it went. Hopefully tomorrow's update will be the finished project! Fingers crossed! Bella is really aggravated with the whole project! She spends half the day running to the front door and the other half barking out the back door! At night, I always go out and relax in the pool while she patrols the yard looking for these invaders -Rich

Hi Everyone, I know this is not scooter related, but since we can post anything in here, I decided to share my latest project with y'all! My new patio and patio cover. I promised my wife a long time ago that I would tear out the old shed and make her a nice place to entertain outside, so here goes! Three weeks ago, I spent around 4 or 5 hours on the computer drafting the project and then finally called in a friend and expert in backyard remodeling. I printed the plan and we made a few revisions and ran it down to code enforcement for approval. My sons and I spent the following weekend tearing down the old shed. It was a bittersweet weekend, since I built that old boy all by myself 15 years ago and was proud of it. It was a 12 x 16', 2-story shed, with construction to code, so it was no easy task taking it down! Anyway, Monday finally came and the first crew showed up for the project. They cleared the yard and set the posts for the new patio cover. Then they filled it first with hard dirt, and then the stone base for drainage. After that, the brick layers came in the next day and got to work on the pavers - this is the end of day one: The area the pavers cover is 18' deep x 28' wide This is a walkway to the front on the other side of the yard: By the end of day 2, the patio was done and the framing was started on the cover: Notice the wide span in front where there are only 2 posts? The main support there is 4 1/2" x 16" and 28' long! We had to get an engineer involved to design the structure and main support since I didn't want the center column. His computer calculates that the patio cover can withstand 1300 lbs/sq ft and 135mph winds. All of the construction except for the shed area is 2 x 10s. On day 3, they got the roof sheathing on and started on the shed. The shed will be the only closed in part of the cover and it is 6' x 16': Day 4 brings the actual roofing and finishing of the shed, except for the louvered wall: Of course, we have to have security! Here is my prize winning baby, "Bella". She's our guard dog - always on the alert! More pics tomorrow of today's work... It was too late tonight to take the pictures. -Rich

Check out Dap Bluestick... you can buy it at most hardware stores and it is a reusable adhesive. If you can't find it, you can order it online here at Amazon for $6.50 shipped - it's $4.99 at the hardware store. I use this stuff on all sorts of things and it sticks very well, but you can also get it off and reuse it! -Rich
