The old saying is true. You get what you pay for.

My .02 worth. First of all if it's a 54B it only takes 7oz of gear oil. Filling it to the top is way too much. Second your variator is filled with grease and with the heat you are talking about plus the heat the variator puts out could have melted that thick grease and got onto your belt. You are going to have to remove the CVT and check the belt.

Most of us with the mc-54-250b linhia use the Gates 856-23-30.

856-23-30 is the right belt by Gates and easy to find. Most of the vendors here carry it and take a look for it on ebay.

Deanc, When you had the cover off and ran the engine, was it making the same noise? I can tell you from my many experiences with the CVT cover, every time I thought it was coming from the clutch, it was actually coming from the variator.
I would suggest you remove the clutch bell and clutch and check inside there, could be a broken shoe, and check all of your rollers. If one turns and it can it makes a terrible sound plus loss of power. I do hate removing 12 bolts.

Jster, what route did you take to adjust the exhaust valve?

I have an idea. You have two outputs on your intake manifold. Take the top one and run a 3/16" good rubber hose to the pump. Put a Y connector on the other lower nipple and run the rest of your hoses off it. You will get more vacuum to your fuel pump.

I can tell you right now you need a valve job. Not easy on the Linhai engine, but from what you said it's the valves.

Also 7oz's is all you need. Do not fill it to the top.

No, I have LED's on the brake lights and my fan seldom comes on unless I'm sitting in traffic. My scoot is never close to overheating.

Today I'm out riding and doing about 45 when the traffic light turned yellow. I was at the edge of stopping or going on. I waited a second and thought better and hit the brakes. Well the brakes worked fine as I did stop fast, but the engine stalled. It started back up with a bit of throttle. Now I'm wondering why it stalled so I took it out on a street hardly anyone is on and got it back up to 45 and again put the brakes on hard and came to stop and once again it stalled. Did the same thing a third time and it stalled again.
Any one have a clue as to why it would stall. The tach went down fast to 2000 rpms but then just died.

Good news so far. You would think a melt down wouldn't take long.

Since the factory service manual for my E-Ton R4 lists max headlight draw as 50W I'm planning on trying this one: www.bulbs.com/eSpec.aspx?ID=10646&Ref=10V+-+19V&RefId=328That is after I fab-up an H4 socket/retainer... the experience I cited in my 1st post convinced me that the high watt BA20D's I bought are definitely not the way to go! Curious to why it says "for off road use only". Any one know why?
