Save your money ..most mods do little...start with the variator... the only engine mod that gives decent performance gains is a BBK , 4 valve head and performance exhaust..for that money just drop in a 250cc and be done with it...

The scooter electrical need to be in balance too much load you will rob the battery charge , too little load you will cook the rectifier/regulator...
You can gain excess capacity if you change all running lights to LEDs..you might get close for one 35/35W...hard to say, there is also an issue on excess heat and lens design...

I would break the the scooter in before you start messing with it...you could have a variator washer restriction or a rev limited CDI..but changing both or either will only get you 5 mph on a broken in 50cc at the most...

What engine is on it..likely 2 stroke? Could be a fuel leak from the carb when t is running..etc....or incomplete fuel burn...
You need to track it down...

And chain guides? and I would replace the cam chain too...unless it is not showing wear.

You may be lean..try adjusting the mixture screw to make it richer...more fuel to air...if that doesn't do it ...air leak as KZ said..

Ya.. the metal of the spark plug must be touching bare metal on the frame or engine... and you must try and start the scooter. I had guy once trying this test and he told me there was no spark...he waited 10 minutes holding the plug to the engine and the spark never came!
I then realised he never hit the start button...he must have thought that the spark just appeared...from somewhere ...when the key was turned on...
true story...
Hold the break lever , hit the star button..see if you get a blue spark and ZAP sound

Have you check that the throttle is in the idle position? I have seen lawn mowers do that and it is usually the butterfly valve opening by vibration...
Is there a vacuum petcock on it? it could be leaking and dumping raw fuel into the intake elbow...from the vacuum line...
It has to be fuel... even if the electricals went crazy the engine would just stall from lack of fuel...

Good to know Rich..so if you hook up a diode backwards it will blow it? I asked about an alarm because they don't like to have the positive and negative reversed...cooks them inside..even just for a second...may be a way to prevent people trying to defeat the alarm system..I don't know...
