That mystery thing is a supplementary air intake - part of the smog junk . We always removed them (sshhh) and plugged the vacuum intake port where they were plugged in - bikes ran much better without. Your stalling and shuddering at start could be a jammed roller weight in the variator...

sometimes it helps to drill out the muffler a bit - more air in, more air out (more noise too)

Yea, I use 15w40 on my one remaining Chinese bike - the synth just seemed to find it's way out of the gaskets, also noticed that Synthetic oils give the engine a different sound - a little tinneier, higher pitched. The Citycom runs smoothest and most effeciently with Mobil 1 extended performance 10w30. On all my bikes I use a non synthetic gear oil - my tech says it sticks to the gears better.

Because I own a scooter store and repair shop, my spare time activities are non-scooter related: 1. Building a house - pretty much full time right there 2. Travel - this is an amazing world, I am fortunate to have been to a lot of it. Love the tropics. 3. Birdwatching - here at home and around the world

we have seen a lot of pickup coils (the little hall switch) on the magneto go bad when hot - unable to send spark signal to coil.

The most asked question at my shop is "how fast does it go?" - the street in front is posted 25mph, but the traffic is typically going 35-45, so I tell them if you want to drive in that, I recommend the 125cc...keeping up is essential for safety. For those who have a need for more (and the $) I have the HD 200 to the Citycom 300i. So far my best selling bike is the HD 200... Often when showing customers a scoot out in front of the shop, we will have motorcyclists zoom recklessly by - some popping wheelies, some just revving it - showing off their power...my customers shake their heads and say "I'm not that guy"

We have had to replace the front wheel bearings on 4 of the GS-Rs, but it was pretty obvious they were goin bad - grinding and freeplay. Also that rear swingarm and muffler mounts were constantly loosening up...

yea, I got some gaskets from a partsforscooters source that were thin and sunk into the groove...the ones I get from flyscooters are the thickest and no need for gasket maker w/ these. The blue RTV is fine.

Congratulations on passing the test - we are all safer now! Here in CA. all 49cc and above require a M1 license...I see quite a few Craigslist ads saying "50cc - no license required", our local impound yard is full of 50cc scoots. One would be customer had lost her drivers license - DUI - bought a used 150cc thinking that would be ok - had it impounded after being stopped and arrested for yet another DUI, then came to me looking for a 50cc - I had to ask her to leave the premises after she started yelling at customers, telling them that I wouldn't let her test ride a 50cc scoot... Like I say, we are all safer with licensed drivers on the road...

The Lance/SYM Cali Classic is currently my best selling bike. The handlebars are not quite as wide as the Chinese versions and use a lot more stainless steel - less rust. Everything is very tight and well put together - no rattles, loose nuts and bolts and the engine is smooth and responsive. It is zippy, I get mine up to an accurate 60 MPH on level ground - the front 12" wheel is stable at speed. I average 100 MPG. I have been selling them since Nov. and have had no - that's zero, customer issues. A few have over 5000 mi, and going just fine. The ceramic lined cylinder not only adds to longevity, but performance and efficiency as well. On the down side, they are only 125cc and tuned for peak performance, so no mods are really available - for those that like to tinker... The new rear rack and storage box deals with the lack of underseat storage - there is a picture of the boxes on my website. The VIN tag reads "manufactured by San Yang Industries" the keys say SYM and the ceramic cylinder is SYM's doing. My customers are 50/50 on the handlebars - I am not crazy about their looks (handlebars) but I like the feel. The overall design is refined and the materials are quality (thicker plastic, etc). Dealing with Lance has been easy - talk to Raymond- the few parts I needed (one mirror) were sent same day. I get the scooters shipped same day as ordered... I know I sound like a salesman, cuz I am, but I ride and service these bikes too and am very pleased with the quality.

The Fiddle ll is a very well built, long lasting and capable bike, but it does have it's limitations - 60 mph tops, a little slower up the hills, but it does feel zippier than the Chinese 150s. The next size up is the SYM HD 200 - very powerfull 15.3 HP, liquid cooled, etc...but at about $1000 more than the Fiddle ll, you will be doubling your horepower...

The Fiddle is a nice bike - too bad we can't get them here in CA.. We do get the Cali Classic with the same 125cc SYM engine - Lance Powersports managed to get them CARB approved, where Carter Bros. gave up on the Fiddle. The Cali is a little lighter bike, but the handling and performance are similar. I managed to get one up to 60+ MPH on the flats, and it handle my 170 lbs on the hills just fine... but after riding my Citycom, well, I agree, a little more umph would be nice. I have tried SYM's performance CDI with no noticable effect, the performance coil did add some zip - If you do add the Uni filter, I would suggest rejetting as well, rather than one at a time.. It seems to me that SYM has got these little 125s going as good as they can...

We had a 250 in the other day with similar symptoms - sputtering at higher speeds, missing,but running...turns out the flywheel had loosened a bit - worn keyway, and the timing was off just a tad as a result
