All my 2008 Flyscooters and Lance scooters (Znen) had the lights on when key on, in 2009, all my Znen bikes had to have the motor running for headlight to work. The Flyscooter La Vie and Lance Milan seems to burn up bulbs with either system.

Well, this is all interesting: my experience with speedos has been variable - on the GY6, I have had some (limited) success with changing the front drive gear - even bending the inner tabs out a bit seemed to help on some..On the SYM HD 200 - just lived with it - they are all 5 to 7% optimistic. My Citycom is spot on accurate, and so are the other Citycoms I have sold. Re: the GPS , I have had two of them and used them frequently to test bikes - I think they were Garmins, I say "were" because I have a bad habit of leaving them in customers bikes after test rides - for some reason no one has returned them yet...My mechanic now uses his phone.. As for the other forum, I visit it daily - trying to help if I can, but also the entertainment factor (like soap operas), I joined it in 2007, when Lee was doing the reviews on the Peg...have always been grateful for his early advice - I downloaded his chinese scooter maintenance manual, where I found out the I should have changed the oil...

Air Box-Box

That tube that runs from the valve cover to the air filter is oil fume/blowby tube - goes to the little side box on air filter box and then drains down into a clear plastic tube, which should be periodically drained. If you are attaching a Uni or simpler air filter and removing the air box, some folks run that valve cover/head breather tube into a can to catch the blowby gunk - there should be room for one with that big ol' airbox outa the way.

gas coming out the back of the carb could mean a stuck float. I like Jakes setup here - that hot tub hose is inert to most chemicals- and I assume gas (I used to be in the hot tub biz) - tho I wouldn't recommend clear tubing for the vacuum line or fuel lines (don't wanna make Rich go hafta lie down again!)

Jake - yours sounds normal Rich, my mechanic (he likes to be referred to as a scooter technician) uses a multi meter, and a wired up contraption using a known good regulator. He checks input and output of regulator - but 90% of the time it is the connections - 1st thing to check, if connections are all good, then he plugs in his regulator - if that works (testing at the battery), then we replace regulator., if not, then he checks stator output...I guess we go in order of price to replace, and typical failure. We have had to replace about 12 stators due to grounded out wiring (out of 550+ bikes), but many more regulators...

At medium to high RPMs - check w/ bike on center stand- the charge rate at the battery should read 13.7 to 15.8 volts - over 17v, not good - check regulator, under 13v, also not good, check regulator and stator output

Yep - thanks for the pics - that's the spot...we have been replacing the heads w/ new ones from Buggy parts NW - come w/ the valves installed, $49. They seem to be holding up much better than OEM.

I would also check the regulator. Check the voltage at the battery while revving the bike - if the regulator is not regulating properly your voltage will be high - 15 to 18+ volts - first go the lights, then battery and fuses... blown fuses= short

Removing the foam/screen on the cover air intake is fine - keeps things a little cooler, but the amount of road gunk that we find on these screens would indicate that so much more debris and gunk would end up in the variator and belt and clutch - without a cover. We often do not bother replacing the gasket for the cover if it is too torn up. Basically want to keep things as clean as possible without air flow constriction...

We strive for customer satisfaction, but our 1st priority is customer safety. We do a thourough PDI, and then I take every bike out for a two mile test ride. I have a route that covers hills, twistys, traffic and Starbucks. I dont let a bike go that is not safe to ride. I had one SYM RV 250 that checked out fine, but the customer came back 6 months later saying that the front end wobbled on him and he didn't feel safe. We torqued and tightened and test rode - could not find the wobble, so let it go back to him. He came back with the same issue - we could not duplicate the wobble, but put on a new front wheel with new bearings just in case. Turns out he had put on a cruise control/throttle clip and had been riding hands -free...no wonder we couldn't find it - we always hold on... I am not saying that this is your situation, it is obvious there is a problem that needs addressing, and your dealer is responsible for fixing it. I hope it works out for you - those bikes can be a pleasure to ride!

We have had a few bikes that must have been dropped from the truck - front forks at strange, but always noticable, angles. If you have tightened up everything, the other possibility is the front fork bearings - on some bikes there are upper and lower bearings and races. Could also be the tire or wheel - check for true spin by holding a stationary pointer (felt pen) to the side of wheel rim and spin.

For our Chinese bike customers (in their scooters), we use 15W 40 Diesel oil (Shell Rotella or Castrol) - we buy it in the gallon container. It seems to hold up well here in sunny southern Cali, and in these hot running scoots. For our ceramic cylinder lined SYM bikes, we use a Valvoline 10W30 racing oil (high zinc content) for the break in, and then Mobil 1 extended wear synthetic. These are very cool running bikes, so the oil doesn't need to be so thick, and we get better gas mileage with it. For gear oil we use valvoline syn-blend 85w90 in the handy sqeeze bottle.

Could be a small crack in the head - very hard to spot, but 90% of these cracks happen near the cam chain area - must be a weak point in the casting. We have been getting new heads w/ valves installed $49. from Buggy parts NW - they seem to be holding up better than OEM heads. Have replaced about 12 to 15 heads on the GY6 this last year. It seems that if it's not the valve cover gasket, not the starter motor O ring, the next place is the head - usually a small hairline crack near the cam chain area...
