Took the scooter out on Saturday to Red Rock Overlook west of Las Vegas, then decided to continue to Mountain Springs Saloon and hang with the heavy iron. I'm parked down by the white car. Still air, temp at Mountain Springs in the mid 60's, and lots of sun. Very nice. On Monday, I took my FJ1200 back to Red Rock.

kz1000st said "As good as my CF Moto is I have another scooter and a bike behind me and a car as backup." As far as I'm concerned, if you absolutely have to rely on a vehicle to get to work, meaning no bus service at the right time or distance, then that is the best advice ever. I never have less than two vehicles. No matter how "bulletproof" or dependable your ride is, at some point, you will be ready to go to work and a) it won't start. b) runs fine, but one of the tires is flat. c) probably runs fine for the kid who just stole it. Or some other thing.. Even if your back up is a ten speed, it's just better to have it and not need it.. Just my 2c worth...

Nevada Cycle Parts on Las Vegas Bl North,(702) 642-8444 near the Opera House, sells and services scooters. He's been around since the 80's, used to be just motorcycles, now mostly scooters. I don't know his rates and am not affiliated with his business, but I have purchased from him a few times..

Actually, I just partly retired 2 months ago, and so I take mondays off. Was going to take fridays, but we get a lot of last minute, need it now jobs on Friday afternoon. So, yup. Three day weekends. But yeah, I didn't realize it was on Monday, but should have. I don't think anyone would mind making this a 3 day event?

Ditto on JR's sentiments. And does bring me to another thing. I believe that a rider has the right to determine his own riding state, but hate it when I see 'em screaming down the road with a passenger, especially a child, helmetless, and jacketless on the back of the scoot. Not applicable in this case, since they were married and in their 50's. I would guess that they had been riding for at least a few years.. Still, always sad to loose riders.

Oh, I agree, JR. Bigger, stronger doesn't make right. And doesn't grant the right to act in an uncivilized manner. Also doesn't mean that someone smaller and more cunning can't totally whip one's arse. Personally, I would have quietly chatted with the member and let him know that I'd prefer that he not drink at that time, unless I'd already had other occurrences of the same type and felt that a public message had to be sent. Sadly, some people you simply can't reason with, without it deteriorating to a shouting match, and beyond.

At the time our club president was a giant of a man, about 6'10" and over 300 pounds. He walked up to one of the members at the event with a can of beer in his hand. This member was noted for lack of restraint around alcohol, was no spring chicken and should have known better. The President said to him, "Can I see your beer for a minute?" The guy handed it over without question. The Prez dropped it on the ground and stomped on it flattening it in the process with the beer spraying out. "We have too far to ride home for you to be screwing around. Don't let me see this again." The guy drank soda for the rest of the day. The only thing, in my opinion, that makes this kind of action acceptable is that it is the club president, and you state that the member was noted for lack of restraint around alcohol. That is the whole purpose of a club president, sgt of arms, or ride captain. It is their job to make the ride safe for everyone. Anytime I go on a run with a group, I take my cues from the ride captain. If the group isn't drinking, neither am I. And if I'm on a courtesy ride with them, I ride in the back, even if I think they are moving too slow for my taste. It's about respect.

Well, as a long time motorcyclist, scooterist and bar patron, I must, I must, add my 2 cents. Seeing riders at bars bothers me no more that seeing 'em wearing sandals, t-shirts, shorts and headphones while riding. It's their skin. I'm not afraid of being hit by a drunken cyclist. I'm much, much more worried about being hit by the drunk in the monster 4x4 or SUV, or even in the little toyota. Don't have the stats on it, but I would wager real money that most of the riders around Vegas that die on the road aren't drunk. Most of them are 18 to 26 yo's on crotch rockets who are moving to fast to miss the car that makes the left turn in front of them. One of our most recent ones was actually doing a wheelie in the wrong lane when on-coming traffic hit him. Just my opinion, of course.. Keep the shiny side up.

Always great to recover lost sheep, be they with two wheels or the people who ride them. Don't think I ever chatted with you, but hey, a friend of a friend.....
