Hot Rod magazine did an article on the development of the Hemi this month. Basicaly at 550 h.p. it was blowing up.The biggest H.P. motor to come out of Detroit at the time was the Chevy L88. It was rated at 430 h.p. but at 3200 rpm they didn't want the public to buy them.On the street a Hemi was a tuning nightmare. I have over the years ran several Hemi powered cars in my tweaked Grand National and never really feared them. Not many 10sec Hemis on the street they were like the Boss 429, at Nascar they were something to deal with but on the street not so much. Back in the day there was a story that Don Garlits blew in the engine in his dragster and pulled the engine out of his tow vehicle and the dragster actually went faster. I don't know if it is true or not but it is good story. Keith Black made the Hemi into the powerplant that went in the fastest fuel cars that they still run today but there are not many parts that will intercahang between the two.

Nah,how do discuss anything with somebody that responds to a post runs Yamaha in the ground and then post he never heard of a rod problem with a China scoot.Oh yeah he thinks a dyno is to break an engine. Every engine I have had on a dyno was to make sure everything was right, tune it and see how much horsepower it made before we put it between the fenders. It saves alot of time with the pesky items that bite you when it is installed. Then we dyno tune it after it is in vehicle.

OK I did go back and look. I'm not convinced that the Amsoil isn't the culprit here. At 830 miles synthetic oil shouldn't be anywhere near that engine. The rings don't seat, blowby enters the sump and bearings overheat. As for beating the drum, of course. China scoots get back on the road instead of a month's wait for the boat to arrive from overseas and parts to be unloaded. If those rings weren't seated at 830 miles they weren't gonna seat. That is 1960's logic when the rings were made of cast iron. With the present technolgy and materials used they send cars brand new out of the factory with Mobil 1 in the crankcase. I put Mobil 1 in my RC Moto at 250 miles and the bike ran great when I sold it at ~7500 miles.

Who threw a rod at 830 miles? Nobody I know. If they did they must have forgotten to fill the oil sump. These aren't two strokes. I had a Kawasaki with 125,000 miles and no internal problems whatsoever. Your point? I thought he said in the begining of the thread at 830 miles he took a rod out. That is my point! You wanna keep beating the China parts are easy to get drum you must have overlooked it. Good thing they are easy to get and cheap your gonna need them! might be a good idea to put the UPS driver on your Christmas cookie list.

I'll save you from one big headache. Don't buy a Yamaha scooter! You can't get parts for them! Chinese scooters are much easier to get parts for and better to ride than a Yamaha. 830 miles and threw a rod? You better be able to get parts for them. I have had several Yamaha scoots and they all rode and ran very good. As far getting parts for them I never needed anything but plugs.oil, filters and they were very easy to get . I had one Riva with over 20,000 miles and NO internal problems what so ever.

If I had my heart set on a 50cc I would really look long and hard at a Honda Metropolatin either new or preferebly used. You can find a nice used one for ~$1000. It is the best 50cc scoot that has ever been under my butt. I would also reconsider the 50cc though as it seens alot of folks buy a 50cc and in a month or so wish they had gotten a larger scoot. A 50cc is good if you don't plan to go more than 35~40 mph but the 150cc just opens so many more oportunities to ride that in the long run you may get more enjoyment out of the larger scoot.

In Ohio they are saying we could get up to frezzing by Monday! Time to think about getting the scoots ready. I can't wait to start washing and waxing them. Maybe find a couple orphans to get ready for some new owners!

Thanks Dave I am going to need all the LUCK I can get. Nobody wants to make it RIGHT but at least I can set it up on workbench and use it for show and tell. What P.O.s me is that I went to great lengths to make sure it was lined up properly put a dial indicator on it and check the runout and shimmed as necessary. The good news is I went thru the old engine fixed the oil leak, tuned it up and put it back on and it runs grrreat.

I have had many scoots and motorclycles with aluminium that looked like that. What I did and it worked very well was to clean it first with Eagle One Rough Cast alloy cleaner and when I was happy with the cleanliness of it I would spray a LIGHT coat of Dupli Color cast coat aluminum engine enamel. Held up very well looked new and was easy to clean.

i've not had an engine be bad ,,but when there's a sale on stuff i stockup like any normal person,,i do have an 80cc bicycle to moped conversion engine thats still in the box,,opened it up to make sure all was there but never installed and ran it,,soooo i think i may put it together to see whats up,,,,,,good luck with the warranty return I did one of them back in the fall. i bought it at a garage sale for$75 brand new in the box. It was fun project I put on a retro beach cruiser style bike.I rode it around the block a few times and sold it. It was project that was on the bucket list and I am glade I didn't pay $200 for it but to say I was dissapointed in it would be a fair assumption. I think the 80cc rating is optimistic. It looked cool setting in the garage and going down the street though.

I bought a SpeedCo replacement engine for the log splitter about a year ago to replace the aging Honda engine on the log splitter. LOOKED the same dimensions and alot cheaper. I insatalled the engine and dialed it in,it started without too much fan fare and seemed to run good. After about an hour it started to make noise and throw oil all over the place,I shut it down and to my sirprise the torque from the engine ripped the crankcase wide open. It didn't throw a rod or anything just put a 2inch high by 5 inch long crack in the crankcase. Went back with it to where I bought it with the receipt and they said it was out warranty. I tried to explain that I bought it as back up and just put it on. They wouldn't budge. So now I have to go thru corporate and see what they will do. STAY AWAY from Speedco!

For $100 that is a no brainer if it has title.Gives you alot of wiggle room to repair it and not be upside down in it. I have seen and benefited from people buying scoots and never titling them or losing the title.
