check and see if there is any binding with the way the motor is bolted in and use a heavy gage wire 16 awg is not heavy enough use like an 8 awg wire for a ground the wire size is the smaller number the bigger wire cross section

agree the valves gap is too much they need to be alittle tighter and you need to put the bracket on the muffler or the vibrations will break it off glad to see and here it running the way i adjusted the valves is set the motor at top dead center and adjust the valves so i just can move the rockers with my fingers and not use a feeler gage as it is hard to get one in the tight space

make sure the chain glides are in their proper place and did you retract the tensioner

you my want to change the oil in the motor if it smells of gas when one is flooding like this it will get gas into the crankcase and thin the oil better to be safe than sorry

i dont think it will charge the battey you need to be able to charge at a higher voltage than the battery like 13.5 to 14.5 volts

proper prep work is the key fish eye is caused by wax or grease etc. you need to clean the parts good with a paint prep that removes all the contaminates

with the number of problems with the motor you might want to look into getting a new motor with it leaking oil and being run for a long time with out oil the bearings in the bottom end could be damaged with that said best of luck with your rebiuld

i have done the same upgrade with the parts i got from John and the white wire is dc as i have it running a relay for my lights here is how i got mine system wired good luck to you
