Looks to me like it was a good trip, your pictures are breath taking. Makes me feel sorry for cars etc. that just can not see what we do. The hillclimb, just a little fly in the ointment. You got out on a beautiful day, took your lady with you and had lunch like no restaurant can serve. Once the jets and variator are dialed in it will be fine. From the looks of the weather forecast that's going to be a challenge now.

That's a great idea 89newbie. Another thing folks can do that's specific just for the forum is use bookmarks. If you read a thread that you think will be helpful in the future you can click on the bookmark icon at the bottom. When you go to your profile you'll see "bookmarks" at the top. Click on that and you'll see all of the threads you've bookmarked listed. You can click on them and it will take you right to the thread. I think this is a very underused feature of the forum but it's quite handy. Rich Thanks for that also.

That's a good point Russ and it's a subject that has come up in more than a few PMs to me. This issue was also raised on Jay's Spectacular Journey threads. This seems like a good time and spot to address this subject. Forums are discussion mediums and inevitably opinions and belief systems are going to clash. This can lead to spirited, heated, and sometimes confrontational interaction. It would be ideal if everyone kept their composure and all conversations were sedate but this is not always the case. As a moderator it's difficult to draw a line in the sand on limiting the interaction between members without venturing into censorship. Certainly on the technical boards there is no reason anyone should have a harsh word, we're just trying to help one another. On the discussion board, topics are more fair game and subject to occaisional head knocking. I don't want to have a forum where we all have to pretend nice and walk on egg shells to avoid bruising someone's feelings. Having said that, things have been venturing over the top on Jay's thread, and yes elsewhere, and we should take things down a notch. Spirited debate is welcome on this forum but we need to keep it civil, things can escalate rapidly. Your comments are certainly welcome on this issue.......YOU IDIOTS! Rich LOL Rich kinda reminds me of years ago, many when out band teacher stopped practice when first chair trumpet called second chair an idiot. Teachers comment," Takes one to know one". ROFL

sorry the thought has just hit me to post this here. I have been doing this for several years. I add detailed technical information to a favorite list for the particular vehicle. This way when needing something you know you have read it can be pulled up without search time. I just pulled a post on my truck I put in favorites two years ago, I didn't need it then but now I do. Just put one written by Alley, not because I dont know how to do that particular thing but because he gave a time / temp factor I had not seen explained his way. Thanks again Alley! ;D

Alley since yours has had all the work what would be the results with this variator and the gears with out the stroker and bore upgrade. Seems to me it would keep the little torky gy-6 more stable and at the same time give the inceases in speed most are looking for. Opinion please.

Back up idea I have read if spec is not there. When you dain the fork measure what comes out then replace the same amount with the new oil. Be sure the seals are good and no leaking if you have to use this method. Just critically measured both forks, the oil out should be the same amount for each side.

LOL old buddy I weighed the rollers I got from Scrappy and they were dead on. That was months ago but after I did that, I wondered exactly what you wrote about! Not bad enough that one of us slups trying to make the bike be better, smoother, or more powerful gets bad results. Back in the day when I still worked I spent 3.5 hours getting a part for a school to have A/C for graduation. Once on the roof I pulled the old part, and took the new one out of the box. Wrong part! I learned then always check, trust no packaging! Oh rest of the old man story, Stayed for graduation ran A/C with a toothpick wedge to keep em cool rofl..

All in all, I think he will make it. He has been thru a lot and is still plugging at it. Instead of all the negative comments lets stand behind him because he is doing it. No matter what we can say we witnessed it. Jay can say he did it! ( Sure as hell has been a spectacular Journey so far )

I would call Scrappy and make sure that engine is compatible with your rear wheel size. Some of those larger engines will only take a 16" wheel. Also, if the engine code is 161QMK I would stay away from it. Those engines are really hard to get parts for, the head is very problematic in that regard. If your looking to start fresh with a new engine make sure it comes with everything including the carb. You might swap parts from the old engine and find out one of those was the problem. Rich Oh ya that's a bite in the butt when you find it was an acessory!

So the final outcome of all of this is a 150 will not run highway speeds no matter what? Disagree here it can be made to run but not stock. Most folks just dont have the know how to do it so it doesnt happen. We all have seen the video of the 150 modified and doing 80, of course there has to be something in front of it to break the wind.

and maybe a body that lifted off in one piece like some of the 50s scooters Really. Have you seen the setup on a Hyosung? It lifts up like the hood on a car and lets you get at the motor. Even Rich's Fashion. Take off the seat and there's the motor, then move the adjuster until the clicking subsides. Ripping off most of the plastic to get at the valves is such a drag. AS Dave says YEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP!! Love my JCL 150 but valve adjust??? Cross member in the way? It is now with the emissions head. REmove the plastics to get there sure thing after removing the screws , the passenger foot pegs the seat the down plastic below the seat and the battery to not short out on the positive terminal. Sad thing is I really love the wheelbase, brakes, 14 inch wheels, and performance.

I think the valve situation could be much better if there were seats in the heads not bare Aluminum. Also of the stem heas were heat treated prior to assembly. A quality head is just that and would eliminate all the valve adjustments. Im not sure something like that is available at this point.
