from what i understand the oil helps 'catch' the dust that otherwise would get into you carb.

i have a "piece of china crap" at the beginning i had a few problems but i didnt know about these forums to ask for help. now i know what a easy fix it would have been had i been either more knowledgeable or been on here to ask .
when i bought "chrissy" she had 31 miles on her got her for $450 almost 2 1/2 yrs ago. she now has over 7,900 miles the only problem since then was a stator/magento died. Now "chrissy" was imported by Jonway but she was made at their Shanghai Schenke Motorcycle Company LTD plant, it seems this plant had better quality control, etc etc than any of their other plants.
If i ever get another scoot it would have to be a Shanghai Schenke model
everything on her is still stock well except new tires, brake pads, air/fuel lines, & a NGK plug. she was radar "gunned' on 4 runs 67,65,67,66 mph's. at a bit over 8K rpm's
hope this informs you a bit more NOT ALL CHINA SCOOTS ARE CRAP

DISABLE THE ALARM and get a thick cable 'chain' & lock
most people i know who have had alarms have had problems with them all the time. everything from not working to draining the battery. i disabled mine within weeks and got a good thick cable{enclosed in plastic} and a great lock.

WOW I SAY THIS ALOT BUT I CANT HELP MYSELF. i bought "Chrissy" off craigslist from a guy <10 miles from me. she had 31 miles on her paid $450 she now has almost 8K miles on her. very very few problems with her only major prob was the magneto/stator died. if i would've had the proper tools , that could have been a few days down only. sorry everyone else has probs.

i am NOT a mech BUT ive learned a few things
yes if u have a bad muffler, different things could've happened. it wasn't letting out all the burnt exhaust and it has to go somewhere, so it went back into the engine which will burn ur engine out. when i first got "chrissy" i could hear her muffler was bad so rather than burn out the engine, i got another stock muffler id rather pay the $50 for it and not ride for a week{ till it got here} than burn out the engine
if u decide to do a top end job urself, theres tons of videos on youtube to help ya.
sorry u had probs

im a bit over 7,600 miles on original parts--everything, well except the stator, and tires.

Yea I know, .... in fact some where here I posted a few Salsbury pictures a while back. I would give my left nut for one. They were the first with a twist and go transmission. I think they marketed one in '37. The word is Da Vinci had a form of twist and go in one of his drawings. Wish they would come up with a small car using one. Maybe a 1000cc motor, just a basic car with no extra crap on it like all of todays cars. Also Salsbury was owned by one of the aircraft builders of the time. Hence the streamlined body. Attachments:
