Just grab the spark plug connector real tight and turn the engine over. If your getting spark you'll know it. Trust me. You'll be energized and can keep on working. Good luck.

Welcome. Remove the plug ground it and check for spark. If you have spark squirt some fuel in the spark plug hole, reinstall the plug and try to start it. There is a vacuum powered fuel control that allows fuel to flow only when vacuum is present. It usually connects to the carb intake manifold. if need be you can suck on the tube to get fuel to flow to the filter and to the carb. Good luck.

I wonder why they have cold and hot settings for valve clearance ? Does a valve run hotter then the rocker arm? Does the heat variation have an effect on metal expansion ?

I was going to suggest a high speed grinder with a cut off wheel on it. I've cut some hard metal with one.

Might as well hammer it off and see what the shaft looks like. If need be heat the bearing up.

I think the valve clearance would decrease when the engine warms up. Metal expands when heated.

You might also do what I did to get rid of the what I called a bonking noise . I tighten the axle nut with my impact wrench. To the next cotter pin hole.
