Kz your right again! Nothing is immune to breakdown.,but some items are prone to breakdown that is also a fact. The Chinese scoots are evolving{remember the Geelys} but cut thru the icing and whip cream they ARE NOT at the level of the "Over priced" scoots . Will they some day probably but not today. Your consistent argument is initial cost. You search the Internet high and low to find someone having a problem with a "overpriced" scoot, look in the tech forms on this very board and look at the issues fellow board members are having brand new and low miler E Bay specials. Of all the 2 wheelers you have in your signature which one has the best build quality? I will go out on limb and guess it would be the "Overpriced" Honda Rebel.

KZ's right!! I paid a zillion dollars for my Stella and got a two year warrany with roadside assistance and never got to use it.If I would have known that I could have bought a scooter had it for six troublefree years and it's worth more now than I paid for it I would have bought one off E~bay. Oh wait I did and now the importer is no longer selling scooters. They sell saunas.

Basically I do what you do. Clean and wax them, fully charge the battery and put it the basement, change the oil and I don't start it again until I bring it back out of storage.

If they were made in China they would be a lot cheaper! Cheaper made or cheaper to buy? Some of the higher quality China scoots are almost twice the price of the E~bay specials. Throw in dealer, parts and factory support and the price goes up.

KS I am allot like you are. Everybody thinks I have such great luck with all my vehicles. And I am tell them the secret maintenance, that's it plain and simple. My first China scoot was RC Moto Hot Rod 150 I rode it everyday and thoroughly enjoyed it and sold it when it had 8500 miles on it. Since then I have had 25~30 scoots buy them massage them ride them and when I see something else that catches my eye it's like last weeks paycheck gone!!

AMEN...randy has all the exact words i wanted to say...i mean e-v-e-r-y-t-h-a-n-g .....thanks randy you're heaven sent. I'd like to follow you on twitter if you have one...lol Thee only point I was trying to make is. That some people think it's cute to bash a scooter that was not priced at entry level and justify it buy saying I could buy two Shang Hi scooters for that amount of money and try to make you look foolish because you bought a scooter that tripped your buttons. Then you go to the tech forums and read they have replaced five head gaskets or the stator won't keep up if you have your bright light on and the turn signal at the same time. My 2005 Stella which only has 7k on it the only things I have done to it is 3 spark plugs and a new battery. It came with a 2 year warranty that I never needed. And to me that is the best kind of warranty. I don't bash the China scoots and don't appreciate the bashing of mine. I took all the bashing I could stand with my Chinese scooter on the BBS and was so thankful when I found the Scoot Dawg and then this board came on line and I was one thee first to sign on. The Best scooter in my opinion is the one that is under butt.

The china built scoots have a place in the market as long as the buyer knows what he is getting into ie;no dealer or part support. The average dealer doesn't usually know who the manufacture is and will advertise and compare it to a Vespa.China scoots are much less to purchase than allot of other scoots but with that are short falls. A person with some mechanical skills that enjoys working and maintaining his scoot will be fine.I have seen the behind the walls of a drop shipper and it was amazing the amount of scoots he sold and knew nothing about them. I have benefited several times from people wanting a scoot and price shop then get disappointed and hold a fire sale. My 50 year old Vespa is still alive and kicking, runs, shifts and stops fine, and parts are cheap and plentiful after 50 years! The guys on here want to compare there $700 scoots to,Honda,Kymco,Vespa etc based on price alone and it can't compare on that basis. But it does very well for guy that wants to get into scooting and not spend a butt load cash and is aware of the teething pains associated with it. I don't bash the China scoots but some guys on here every chance they get want to compare the China scoots to other name brand scoots on the basis of price alone. Different strokes for different folks. And I prefer two with a shifter.

www.motorcycle-usa.com/14/17464/Motorcycle-Article/2013--2000-Scooter-Comparison.aspxI would take either of the Chinese built 125s over a bunch of overpriced 50cc models. [/quote You guys always jump on Luke for defending his brand of choice then every chance you get you fuel the fire with load of B.S. that the China scoots are cheaper . Somethings up when the constant argument is price. Well I have worked on a lot of scooters and there is reason for the big difference in price. The China built scooters in general use thee cheapest parts known to mankind from the bolts that hold it together to the valve stems in the tires. How many of the overpriced scoots need ,belts ,valve stems batteries in the first few hundred miles. I paid $1800 for my overpriced Stella 4 years ago. It is worth MORE than that today. So that is pretty cheap ridding. With the "overpriced" scoots I think you have to take into account the resale value also. I have bought used entry level 150cc scoots with as little as 10 miles on them for $200 that the owner bought on line couldn't get it running and got digusted with the online dealer and bailed out on it.

I think I put about 4oz per tire. It was a 13 inch rim. It worked fantastic. It is the same system they use for the big rigs where they can't balance the tires.

I had a pretty good shake on my front wheel. I took off the weights and put balancing beads in them. It rode smooth as silk. This was common procedure in the early days of the lesser expensive scoots.

I can see me pouring gas on mine and using it to toast marshmallows. I was on my way home tonight with the wife when it died. Radiator leak! ARGHHHH! This frickin thing is trying to nickle and dime me to death! I did get my parts order today though. New ignition switch with all new locks and keys, wire connector kit and a new set of front forks. My new lights should be here in a day or two. You have to expect these normal maintaince items as these bikes get older and you start racking up the miles.

I bought my first " Asian" scoot in 2005 from RC Moto at that time nobody knew anything about them and if you couldn't turn a wrench it would be the biggest disappointment in my life. there were no boards that catered to the Chinese scoots. When I first logged on to Scoot Dawg there were less than 50 members and from that a following a wealth of information as to the short comings of the Chinese scoots were addressed and worked through. These problems still exist but with boards like this they can be worked thru. The problems with inferior, stators, valve stems, fuel lines, and cheap belts still exist but we figured out how to remedy these problems. But I will tell you that alot of the replacement parts are just as inferior as the originals and it is a crap shoot on who to order from.
